Why Laragon?

I've been using Valet for Linux, LAMPP, Docker, Vagrant, etc..but IMHO those haven't been able to give as pleasant experience as hoped for while developing web apps like Laragon.
Truly isolated environment with easily swappable PHP/MySQL/etc version... Kurre

i would strongly recommend you take a look on laragon: https://laragon.org/ . i replaced my xampp setup over a year ago and it's really great and fast and you can even put it on a usb drive and have a full dev server with virtual hosts and ssl certificates, mailcatcher etc. bernhard

I am a retired SW engineer, working all the years on windows OS. I have been trying to install Laravel Homestead on my PC as a base for a site dedicated to the Bridge cards game. I have been beating around the bush for two weeks, seeking advice on the net, but failed to install the framework. Then, out of the blue, I encountered a reference to Laragon ("Bye Virtualbox/Vagrant/Homestead, Hi Laragon”). I installed Laragon out of despair and curiosity, and, lo and behold, It worked as promised, right at the end of the effortless installation and configuration. I wish Laragon success and many followers. xenonius

As you look into PHP, I recommend Laragon as a quick, local, easy to configure environment to start out. It comes prepackaged with a lot of tools as well as Apache and a MySQL/Maria database. It allows on the fly switching of database and PHP versions. It's also very portable. Terryn_Deathward

On Windows, Laragon is pretty amazing. It has a GUI for installing WordPress as well as lots of other software. It automatically creates virtual hosts, allows you to send & catch test emails, and switch versions of PHP / Apache / MySQL easily. It creates an isolated environment with many things already installed and available via command line: Git, Node.js, NPM, SSH, xDebug, Composer, etc... Dustin

If you are using Windows, I HIGHLY recommend Laragon. It is incredible, clean looking, and even supports quickly creating Laravel projects.
You can also use auto-hosts. Such as http://application.dev/, http://testing.dev, etc. I really recommend you check it out. I abide by it.

I found about 10 tutorials performing a step-by-step guide on how to get it work in your machine, some of them talk about WAMP, MAMP, XAMP, some others about the Laravel Homestead, and other about setting it up all by your self (installing Apache, PHP, editing PHP.ini, enabling SSL ...). But why that much of headaches ? Use Laragon software, a kind-of WAMP specially created for Laravel framework, it generates Laravel 5 and 4 versions in your computer, setup every other needed ressource (PHP, Apache, MySQL) and gives you some good looking URLs ({ProjectName}.dev will now point to your localhost/{ProjectName}/public folder in your local browser).
